Do You Doula?

Thanks for posting this, Emilie! I had tossed around the idea of having a doula when I was pregnant with BB. Our pre-natal class instructor was one, and of course encouraged us to have one. I decided against it in the end, because I wasn't sure whether I would be accepting of a stranger encouraging and supporting me. We watched a video in class and the doula was encouraging the mom-to-be by saying things like, "You're so strong!" and "I know you can do it!" All I could think was, "How can you say those things if you don't really know me?" However, if we manage to conceive again, I plan to once again consider obtaining the services of a doula, and maybe do a bit of extra research this time rather than just taking the word of our instructor and a video we were shown in class. :)

Cuddles, I'm glad! The most important thing when looking for a doula is to find one whose personality meshes well with yours. Experience is a big asset, but less important than how well you get along and how "in sync" you are (in my opinion). Also, if she's doing something in labour that you like/don't like, speak up - a doula works for you and will use the feedback to help you even more! Good luck!
