Killer Elvis

Remember the Breakfast Project?

Feast your eyes on what I call...pum pum pa-a-ah!  The Killer Elvis.

What's better than the infamous peanut butter and banana sandwich?

A peanut butter and banana and chocolate and cream cheese sandwich!

And what's better than that?

Dipping it in egg mixture and frying it up like french toast.

Yes, it is bad for you, even if it has fruit and a dairy product in it.  I was a bit afraid to try it, and so I added maple syrup.  I'll try anything with maple syrup on it.  Being Québecoise, I cut my teeth on the stuff.

The first bite was good.  The second bite was better.  The last few bites, well, I guess I should have known when to pull the plug.

I don't know if I'm an Elvis fan, but me and peanut butter & banana sandwiches?  We're close.

Hello, Lover.

Breakfast Enchilada

So, remember when I started The Breakfast Project?  I was going to get really, really, really good at making breakfast, and track my progress on my blog?  Then, I completely ran out of time and kind of forgot about it?  Well, for those of you who were breathlessly waiting for news on The Breakfast Project, this one's for you.

My friend Abi gets the credit for this one.  It starts out with homemade tortillas.  Surprisingly easy, quick and cheap to make!

Yes, I meant for it to be square.  Ahem.

I scrambled some eggs, poured enough of them to thinly cover the frying pan bottom, added shredded cheese, onions and peppers (which I had pre-fried to make them a bit less crunchy).  I slapped a tortilla over it all, and waited for the magic to happen.  Once the egg was cooked, I flipped it through the air and caught it on my plate.  Sadly, I don't have video evidence of that.

I rolled it up like an enchilada.

I put it pretty on a plate with a green salad, added some salsa and ta-da!   Lunch!

I know, it's The BREAKFAST Project.  So, to make it the real deal, I would have put fruit salad with it.  In this case, though, it was 5 pm, and I wanted greens.

The kids declared it yummy.

The Breakfast Project

I'd like to be an expert on something. I don't care what, I just want to have something that I am really, really good at doing. There are lots of things that I'm good at, but no one area at which I excel. So, a while ago, I put on my thinking cap , turned it on (if you were my kids, you'd press your nose and say, "Beep beep!") and I decided: Breakfast!

I LOVE breakfast. More importantly, breakfast loves me. If I skip breakfast, the whole day is shot. So, since I have to eat, and I love to eat, and breakfast makes me happy, it was a pretty easy decision.

I'm going to try different recipes, and perfect the art of breakfast food in my home. Here's my first breakfast experiment (and I won't catalogue them all...just the awesome or awful ones):

Crepes. So good, so versatile, so breakfast! I stuffed these with fresh strawberries that I had cut up, sprinkled with sugar and left overnight to "juice". I also spread strawberry jam on the crepe because I was afraid the berries would be too sour. Add a bit of whip cream, chocolate sauce and YUM! Next time, though, the batter needs to be more liquid. The crepes were a mite thick.

Orange juice always looks better in a wine glass - especially with a slice of orange.

Graedon gave it two thumbs up!
